About the article
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration figures for 2017–2025 show the number of krathongs collected after Loy Krathong falling from 811,945 to 391,027, more than half down and about a quarter below 2024. About 83% of 2025's krathongs were made from natural materials, about 10% from bread and only about 7% from foam, and more than 23,000 people floated a krathong online on the BMA website. The BMA credits a change in city dwellers' behaviour and greater environmental awareness, backed by its 'one family, one krathong' campaign. On the night, the Department of Drainage and Sewerage and all 50 district offices run more than 110 collection points and clear the water quickly afterwards.
