Fighting Dengue: The Goal of Zero Deaths by 2030

About the article

For ASEAN Dengue Day (15 June), Thailand's Department of Disease Control set out four proactive measures towards ASEAN's goal of zero dengue deaths by 2030. Cases have fallen from about 158,000 (190 deaths) in 2023 to about 58,000 (61 deaths) in 2025, and the 2026 target is no more than 50,000 cases. The measures cover surveillance of the disease and mosquitoes, vector control, diagnosis and treatment, and risk communication. Districts where cases pass 70% of last year's level get priority. Partner projects include dengue-free schools and factories, a faster diagnosis system in health facilities, and a study on adding a dengue vaccine to national health benefits, with a decision expected this year.
